Adam 1: The Creation

Ancient Prophets - video lorem ipsum

Have you ever thought about what the world was like in the beginning?  Genesis gives us a beautiful picture.

Read Gen 1: 1-25

Look at v. 2: Imagine what the world was like…no light, no life, no vegetation

When did light come into being?  (v. 3)

Light came into being when God said it.

How did God see the light? (v. 4)

Do you agree with God that light is good?  Aren’t you glad to have light.  Take a moment to tell God thank you for the light.

What did God create on the second day?

What did God create on the third day?

Are you glad to have plants and trees and fruit?  Take a moment to thank God for the plants and trees and fruit and bread from grains.

What did God create on the 4th day?

What did God create on the 5th day?

What did God create on the 6th day?

Right now stop and thank God for His wonderful creation.  If you don’t know how to do this, just say outloud (You may whisper…God can hear you) to God thanks for the light and darkness for rest, for the seas and dry ground, for the plants and trees and fruit, for grain for bread, for the sun and the moon and the stars, for the fish and the birds, for the livestock and animals.  Think about what you like about God’s creation and thank Him for it.

Read Gen. 1:26 – 2:3

Have you ever thought about how man is different than the rest of the animals?  List some ways that man is different than birds or beasts:

Only man has the ability to develop original ideas and to create something new.  For example, some birds create colorful nests, but they always create them in the same way.  Also, only man has an eternal soul.  Take a moment and thank God for your creativity and the creativity of poets and artists and musicians.  These unique qualities distinguish man from the rest of the animals.  We are created in God’s image with an eternal soul and the ability to create something new.  No, we don’t create from nothing like God, but we do have the ability to create something new from different aspects of God’s creation (such as carving wood into a beautiful piece of furniture).

What are people to rule over?

What are people supposed to do?

In the beginning, what were people supposed to eat?

What did God create on the 7th day?

Read Gen. 2:4 – 25

How did man become a living being?

What was man supposed to do in the garden (v. 15)?

What would happen when the man ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil?

Is it good for man to be alone (v. 16)?

How did God create woman?

In verse 23 of chapter two we find what is probably man’s first poetic expression.  Write it down here:

This is an expression of delight that Adam found in his wife.

According to verse 24, what did God intend for marriage?

God intended from the beginning that a husband and wife would leave their parents and be united as one flesh.  From the rest of Scripture it is clear that husbands and wives need to take care of their parents.  If you are married, take a moment to thank God for your spouse.

Before the man and his wife ate of the forbidden tree, did they feel any shame?

Before the man and his wife ate of the forbidden tree, did they need anything?
